Jo is a planning and environment lawyer with considerable experience in dealing with planning and development approvals, contaminated land issues, environment and planning due diligence, litigation and EPA related waste management.

She has acted for major oil and construction companies, property developers and landfill and waste management companies.

Prior to commencing Merrylees Legal, Jo was a senior lawyer with Rigby Cooke lawyers and prior to that, Deacons Lawyers (now Norton Rose Fulbright).

Jo’s experience includes acting for:

  1. VicTrak in contaminated land issues throughout Victoria

  2. A renewable energy company - successfully seeking Ministerial intervention in relation to a Planning Scheme Amendment to expedite the $420 million state significant project - development of a strategic planning pathway, intense liaison with Local and State government and preparation of the Planning Scheme Amendment documentation

  3. JV vehicle in relation to its purchase of $285 million of shares in an Australian Rail business from its American parent - environmental due diligence and preparation of key contractual clauses for the sale documentation

  4. Major Landfill, Mining, Transport and Clean Coal Technology company in providing strategic advice in relation to planning and environmental matters - in particular in relation to the ongoing operation and expansion of the landfilling activities
